Context note: Grandpapa is a newbie to Internet Marketing. He wants to enter the world of e- commerce by blogging. His grandson, FreeChoice, has agreed to teach him the skill and art of blogging.
Each of the posts in this blog is a tutorial in the series and focuses on teaching Grandpapa a specific aspect of blogging.
Instruction and learning takes place through conversational dialogue. In this post Grandpapa starts to learn about keywords and their place in the blogosphere.
“Find the right Keyword when learning to blog”
“Grandpapa, I know you’re burning to talk to me about www.bux.to but let us first focus on finding the best keywords for your blog.”
“That is good FreeChoice, my www.bux.to account has grown to $74.00 in 5 days, but I very much want to get my first posts published, so I promise to stay focused on your lesson. By the way, tell me more about keywords. I have noticed that people all over the ‘Net seem to take a special interest in them.”
“Correct, Grandpa. Let me explain as simply as possible: Keywords, and keyword research, have to do with trying to locate the ‘supply and demand‘ in a particular niche of Internet Marketing. You will know from general experience in life, if there is a great demand for an article but the supply is limited, the price of the article goes up. We have seen this universal law in action so many times. Just think of oil, for example. The demand for oil, energy is growing by the day. The supply, on the other hand is diminishing (albeit through political maneuvering) and thus the price keeps going up. This is obviously good news for those people who have control over (the supply) the oilfields of the world.
“In your case, you need to find out how the law of supply and demand affects a commodity like BB-guns, for example. If you can determine that there is a huge demand for BB-guns, but a limited supply, then you have identified a profitable niche market and, all things being equal, you stand to make good money!”
“FreeChoice, the theory sounds straightforward and simple to me, now how do we go about discovering supply and demand in Internet Marketing?”
“Grandpa, remember, I have simplified the concept somewhat, in real practice, it is perhaps not quite as simple. But to answer your question, this is where keyword research comes into the picture. Remember, if people want to find something (article or information) on the Internet, that something is ‘in demand’. If many thousands of people look for that particular ’something’, there is a ‘large demand’. The way people look for an article on the Internet, is by entering a keyword, or keyword phrase, into a search engine (like Google or Yahoo) and asking it to search for that ’something’. This is a process that we all participate in everyday when we look for something on the Internet.”
“I’m beginning to understand the concept FreeChoice, but how can we find out what keywords people are using when they search for a specific article, or bit of information?”
“Grandpa, fortunately this is not so difficult. Many of the Internet guru’s have developed their own ‘keyword tools’ and each person swears that his tool is better or more accurate than someone else’s tool (haha)… The problem is that in most cases we cannot access those tools if we do not first buy their complete package. The most famous and probably the most widely used of these keyword research tools is the ‘Wordtracker’ keyword tool. Unfortunately this tool is not free and one has to subscribe for it. Subscription costs come out at about $1.00 per day. This is a fair price considering the value you can get from it.
There are, however a few keyword tools that, although they have been developed as part of more comprehensive packages are free to be used even if the user has not subscribed to the full package. Here are three excellent tools:
1. Sitesell.com has an excellent tool http://searchit.sitesell.com/ that can be used for free. It is tucked away as part of Ken Envoy’s The Affiliate Masters Course an excellent and very comprehensive course on affiliate marketing which we may look into once your blog is up and running.
2. Alvin Pang has developed an excellent tool as part of his ‘Atomic Blogging’ course, and is the tool that he uses himself and which has helped his website climb to within the first 10 searches in search engines. This tool can be downloaded at http://hyperlink.to/downloadabkeywordresearch.
3. A third very excellent keyword tool that can be used for free has been developed by seobook: http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/
“Thanks for dropping by, FreeChoice, this is very useful information. I am going to ‘play around’ with these keyword research tools and will give you a ring if I run into a problem or when I have some meaningful information about my keywords.”

The concept is explained quite clearly and even a beginner like me can understand it. Please continue with this series.
Do I understand it correctly that the more keywords are used, the more hits you’ll pick up on a search engine allowing your link to be one of the first listed on the results?

Your understanding is only partly correct. It is not so much the quantity of keywords. It is more the quality and placement of keywords. Future tutorials will develop the keyword concept in greater depth
