Tutorial 1: What is a Blog?
“starting a blog”
“Hi grandpa, what’s up? Why do you look so happy today?”
“Good day, Freechoice. I’m happy because I’m going ‘abloggin’ next week.”
“Excuse me, did you say ‘blogging’ or ‘jogging’?”
“My dear Freechoice, I said ‘blogging’. I am going to start a blog. Can you imagine an old guy like me going jogging?”
(As unlikely as that is, it is more imaginable than see him blogging)
“Come on, FreeChoice, don’t you think I can handle a blog?”
“Sure grandpa, but what, in your opinion, is a blog?”
“Elementary, dear FreeChoice, a blog is a letter on the internet and blogging is a series of letters on the Internet. Because they’re on the net anybody and everybody can read them. In fact, I think blogging is somewhat like the Screwtape letters of the 1950’s, do you remember them?”
“Sorry grandpa, that is somewhat before my time, but what, if I might ask, got you thinking about starting to blog?”
“Ah, my dear FreeChoice, the answer is elementary. It is power!!”
“I’m sorry again grandpa, you’ve lost me. What do you mean by ‘power’?”
“FreeChoice, you disappoint me! Don’t you see, when I publish a letter (blog) many people will read it. They will recognize my name, I will become famous! Think of the power that famous people have. Blogging will give me power.”
“But, FreeChoice, there’s more. Blogging will make me money! In fact, blogging will make me rich!!”
“Oh, come on, grandpa. Where did you get that from? “
“My dear FreeChoice. Where have you been lately? It’s all over the Internet. There’s a guy (I think his name is Rob Benwell) advertising a book that he has written, “Blogging to the Bank”. He claims to make more than $500 a day blogging!”
“Have you read this book gandpa? “
“No, not yet, but I’m thinking about it. $500 will sure come in handy at the moment!!”
“Do you know how to start a blog, Grandpa? “
“No, FreeChoice, but that is where you come in! What’s the use of having a grandchild if he cannot help you start a blog? (hehe). By the way, I want my first blog out after the weekend - I really need that $500, even $400 won’t be too bad. I know you can’t help me right away, but come back soon, I’m in a hurry!”
“O’K grandpa, I’ll be back “
(What on earth have I got myself into? Helping the old fossil to start blogging. But I’ll give it a bash).
“Bye Grandpa.”
“Cheers for now, FreeChoice.”

Hi granddad (or is it FreeChoice?)
Great post. A fresh and interesting take on a familiar subject. I appreciate the satire! Is this the beginning of a ‘grandpa saga’? I will be back to check it out.
Paultjie
Interesting.
Welcome to blogging Grandad
This looks like a good start to some useful information to the uninformed like me!
So, I think we are not only following the motto which says “No child left alone” but also, “No grandpa left alone” too. (hehehe)
